Sept. 21, 2017 - Sept. 22, 2017
Location Sevilla, Spain
On 21 and 22 September, the Spanish National Association of Scientific Porcinoculture (Anaporc) held its XXXVIII Anaporc Symposium in Seville, one of the most international and high-level scientific-technological meetings held by Anaporc in its 38 editions.
On this occasion, the XXXVIII Symposium brought together 604 specialists from the pig sector, which represents a new historical record of participation. The Symposium dealt with different scientific professional topics, many of them focused on the diffusion of the PROHEALTH Project, such as:
The conferences were very well received by the attendees. Of particular interest were the results obtained in WP1 in relation to internal biosafety; the activity in WP2 to determine how do piglet characteristics affect mortality risk; the conclusion reached in WP3, where pigs selected for a better feed efficiency are not more susceptible to lameness, inflammatory and respiratory diseases; the accuracy to predict, in WP4, the incidence of disease by analysing environmental parameters; the practical application of biomarkers and the low importance of organic farming or sanitary stress for gut microbiota composition in WP5; and the update of the disease costs presented in WP7.
Although this conference was presented mainly in English language, this was not a problem. Therefore, ANAPORC's organization has focused on a more international scope.
In conclusion, it is possible to say that, although people related with the livestock sector (scientists, technicians, Universities and producers) already knew about the PROHEALTH project thanks to the periodic newsletters, the ANAPORC congress has allowed us to deepen in its dissemination.
